Welcome to Brian Hochstrat Saddle Company. I offer a full range of saddles and tack to suit most needs. I build nearly every style of western saddle, such as cutting, roping, and ranch saddles, all on a custom-order basis to meet your specifications.
I have been asked in the past why should someone spend extra money on a handmade, custom saddle, when most feed stores carry factory-made saddles for almost half the price.
The reasons are simple. Custom saddles are made with superior quality materials, which adds durability and prolongs the life of the saddle. Custom saddles are also made with the horse and rider in mind. The trees the saddles are built on are the best made, and while that makes them more expensive, they fit a horse properly, which makes the horse more comfortable and agreeable to ride. Also, the saddle is custom made to fit you the rider, everything from seat and fender length to cantle and gullet height. Every element of the saddle is custom fit to ensure a comfortable ride.
I learned my trade in Northern California from saddle maker Buck Haney, who gave me a solid background in the Old California style. After a few years of working as a ranch cowboy and part time saddlemaker, I moved to the Fort Worth area of Texas, known for its cutting horse industry. I became a full time saddle maker when working under renowned saddlers such as Joey Jemison and Bob Scott. With over 75 years of experience between them, I learned a great deal more about the saddle business.
In the end, I have developed my own technique of building a saddle, which is rooted in California style, but with a little Texas accent.
